Canada's DNA Databank

Did You Know?

DNA is a powerful law enforcement tool. As of November 22, 2004, investigative leads generated by Canada's DNA Databank have assisted in more than 2,400 criminal investigations, including:
  • 173 murders
  • 414 sexual assaults
  • 57 attempted murders, and
  • 333 armed robberies.
Until the recent passing of Bill C-13, Ralph Power's DNA was not in the DNA Databank because he was already serving his sentence when the databank was created in 2000 and he "only" killed one woman. Now with the passing of Bill C-13, the necessary amendments have been made and the laws have changed. Now the DNA Databank has been expanded to include the DNA of Ralph Power and thousands of others dangerous offenders like him.
